When we talk of touch screen phones, one can easily say that the market is filled with touch screen phones, many of which are at affordable prices. But LG’s new KP500 is a class apart. Announced in September 2008, LG KP500 is also nick named as “Cookie”. It works on 2G Network on GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900.

Before we go on to the applications and features, the one prime characteristic of KP500 is a built-in accelerometer. The accelerometer is used for automatic rotation. Accelerometer can also be used when playing games enabling us to tilt the phone Wii-style.

LG KP500 has specifications of 106.5 x 55.4 x 11.9 mm. The screen size is 3 inches. Thus the screen size is big and in touch screen phones, size does matter. KP500 weights just 89 grams. Thus, it is smaller than iPhone 3G as well as thinner than LG Renoir.

LG KP500 display is TFT resistive touch screen with 256K colors. The screen resolution is 240 x 400 pixels. As with all the touch screen phones, KP500 has Hand writing Recognition facility too.

LG KP500 has an internal memory of 48 MB. Thus it can store up to 1000 phone book entries with 7 different fields each. KP500 can hold call records of previous 40 dialed, missed and received calls. In addition to all this, there is a provision to expand the memory to a whooping 16GB using micro SD.

LG KP500 applications include GPRS with 32-48 kbps speed. It has Bluetooth v1.2. Also it comes with a mini USB, with whose help KP 500 can be connected to the computer. It also has EDGE of Class 10 with a speed of 236.8 kbps. LG KP500 has a 3.15 MP camera with a resolution of 2048×1536 pixels. It also has video recording facility of QVGA@12fps.

LG KP 500 features include SMS, MMS, EMS, Email and Instant Messaging facilities. Apart from this one can access the internet using the WAP 2.0/xHTML. It has Stereo FM radio with RDS. When we have already spoken about the extensive memory, it will be need less to say that KP 500 also has an MP3/WMA/AAC player and an MP4 video player.

As far as colors are concerned, you will be spoilt for choice. LG KP 500 comes in a variety of colors like Black, Vandyke brown, Anodizing silver, Elegant gold, Delicious white and Pink.

For those of who want to carry their work along work them, LG KP 500 also has a Document viewer with applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF.

LG KP 500 mobile phone is powered by Standard battery, Li-Ion 900mAh battery. This gives it a stand by time of 350 hours and a talk time of 3 hours and 30 minutes. Of course this can be increased by using the power saving techniques.

LG KP 500 is priced at Rs. 11,000. So in the end, a medium priced phone, which is built to suit the needs of everyone with some great features, LG KP 500 is worth a buy.
