Announced in 2003 the Motorola V220 works on 2G Network on GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900. It is a sleek flip phone and has got a stunning style and body. Motorola V220 has specifications of 85.5 x 44 x 24 mm, 80 cc, when in the closed position. When opened, but obviously it gets longer and thinner. Thus the user is in a comfortable position to talk or make the call. V220 weights just 100 grams. Thus it is identical to the earlier versions like V300, V500 and V600 but Motorola has reduced many features to reduce the cost.
Motorola V220 display is CSTN, 65K colors. The screen has a resolution of 128 x 128 pixels. Motorola V220being a flip phone has a secondary display too which has 96 x 32 pixels screen. The body is made of a reflective glass coated surface. Thus, giving it a sophisticated look.
Motorola V220 has integrated VGA camera 640×480 pixels. But V220 camera does not have a video recording feature. Now this is a limitation compared to its parent cells but this is done primarily to make the phone more cost effective.
Motorola V220 has limited internal memory of 1.8 MB but it cannot be expanded as there is no card slot provided. V220 can store up to 500 phone book entries. The memory is sufficient to store 10 dialed, missed and received calls.
Motorola V220 features include a GPRS with 32-48 kbps speed. It does not have an EDGE facility or Infrared or a Bluetooth feature. But then again with the limited memory, there is no space left for keeping the songs and pics that one might transfer using the above mentioned features. Still using V220 one can surf the net because it has browser is WAP 2.0/xHTML. Games include Hungry Fish and OptItOut. So the phone pretty much has the basic features.
Motorola V220 has a standard battery, Li-Ion 860 mAh (BX200). This battery is sufficient enough to keep the phone running for 216 hours along with a talk time of 5 hours. Thus no compromise what so ever is made on the battery life.
Priced at Rs 6000, Motorola V220 looks a bit expensive from the features point of view but having said that, it has all the primary applications and features to meet the needs. Also it is a clamshell phone, so it fits the bill for those who wish to make a style statement.
