This high-quality Sony Ericsson P990i smartphone has a very different flip-lid that opens to reveal a thumbpad for typing emails, SMS, and editing Word, Excel and even PowerPoint documents.
The screen of the P990i is a 240 x 320 pixel, 18bit colour TFT model and the lithium polymer battery is rated at 1,120mAh. This battery, according to Sony Ericsson, promises to give three hours on 3G networks and nine hours on GSM, with standby times of 12 days on 3G and around 16 days on GSM, which is pretty good.
The P990i has two cameras which is an exclusive function in the Sony Ericsson P990i –it has a standard VGA model for video calls, and a two-megapixel, autofocus camera for taking photographs, in four-shot bursts or for recording video clips. The devices internal memory is limited to 64MB, but it can be increased by added a 4GB memory card. Users have access to the web via GSM and Wi-Fi connectivity, with push email features available with Bluetooth links for making calls on headsets or on the hands-free.
There are ‘quickstart’ controls on the side of the handset to start the camera, fire up the onboard Opera 8 web browser, or even go back from the currently viewed web page, and also start the media player. Unfortunately, the P990i does not coordinate through a standard USB to mini-USB connector, but uses Sony Ericsson’s proprietary version operating at USB 2.0 rates. To transfer data from the phone memory the handset has to be set to ‘file transfer’ mode. And to coordinate with Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express the handset has to be set to ‘phone’ mode, but modes cannot be changed when connected to a PC via the USB cable.
The Sony Ericsson P990i is available at Rs.10000 in India and at its time of release was one of the most awaited mobile phones in India. Well its set of features and great looks have definitely not let us down and it turns out to be one of the top mobile phones in India today.
